Lesec's Chateauneuf du Pape Les Galets Blonds (from an 80-year old La Crau parcel) is a gorgeous, classic offering characterized by notes of kirsch liqueur, garrigue, and pepper as well as enormous power and unctuosity. Produced from extremely old vines (93% Grenache and 7% Syrah), this 600-case cuvee is aged in both tank and old wood foudres. The 2000 reveals wonderful sweetness and voluptuousness in addition to oodles of kirsch liqueur, a texture the taster can get lost in, and a dense, full-bodied, opulent finish. While it is impossible to resist now, it will age nicely for 10-12 years. A Patrick Lesec Selection, various American importers, including Stacole Fine Wines, Boca Raton, FL; tel.
