The 2009 Somni, tasted from a barrel sample, is a blend of estate grown Carinena, Garnacha, and Syrah aged 14 months in French oak. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it offers up notions of tar, mineral, tapenade, and assorted black fruits. Dense, rich, and loaded in the glass, it will reward 4-6 years of cellaring and provide enjoyment through 2029.
There are no role models of longevity for these massive Priorats as there are in Bordeaux or Rioja so my timeline involves speculation and extrapolation based on experience and the precision balance that this wine is revealing now.
