The 2006 Barolo Monfalletto is more ethereal, subtle and delicate than the 2007 but also shows less richness in its fruit. Beautiful, precise aromatics lead to a chiseled core of bright red fruit as the wine opens up in the glass. The tannins show notable focus and drive through to the finish. The 2006 Monfalleto is a lovely Barolo, if slightly less generous than the 2007. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2026. Cordero di Montezemolo is one of the few estates where the 2006s are more interesting than the 2007s, with the exception of the entry-level Barolo Monfalleto. Creamy vanilla and carrot notes on the nose. A mouthful of juicy, savoury, vegetal fruit and rosehips with nicely integrated tight tannins and fresh acidity. A sleek, successful wine with a big, sweet finish. Alc: 14.5%.
