The 2008 Rosso Piceno Superiore Vigna Monteprandone is an attractive, mid-weight wine with good depth in its dark jammy fruit and sweet spices, but not quite enough richness to stand up to the oak treatment. In 2008 a measure of balance seems missing. The Montetinello is 70% Montepulciano and 30% Sangiovese. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2014.
Saladini Pilastri makes a wide range of wines, but readers are best served focusing on the reds. Incredibly, all of those wines can be had for under $25 a bottle.
