Like the corresponding Spatlese, the Jost’s 2006 Bacharacher Hahn Riesling Spatlese exhibits an alkaline note in the nose, along with copious apples, bananas, and mangos. Colorful and quite sweet on the palate, its alkaline thread continues into the finish, where honeyed, spicy manifestations of incipient botrytis amplify the wine’s sweetness and tropicality. Enjoy this over the next 2-3 years, and thus in contexts where sweetness is wanted.
