The solidly made Chiantis reviewed in this segment are not the most opulent or hedonistic, but will be admired by those who prefer Chiantis with grip and tannin. The 1994 Le Masse di Greve Riserva displays a medium dark garnet color, followed by sweet, soft, dried cherry fruit and leather aromas, and tannic, hard, medium-bodied flavors dominated by their tannin and leather-like notes than by fruit.
