A superstar of the appellation, is the 2007 Gigondas Domaine La Rubine. A blend of 75% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 5% Mourvedre, it exhibits an inky/blue/purple color along with a gorgeous bouquet of acacia flowers intermixed with blueberries, dark raspberries, black cherries, and a hint of plums. The wine hits the palate with full-bodied power, gorgeous density, the vintage’s freshness and acids, and an impressive razor-like precision. There is enough tannin and extract that the wine will benefit from 2-3 years of cellaring. It should drink well for 12-15 years. The stars in Patrick Lesec’s porfolio are the superb Chateauneuf du Pape cuvees he fashions, but there are also some stunning bargains for shrewd consumers. By the way, Lesec chose not to produce any Chateauneuf du Papes or Gigondas in 2008.Importer: Chemin des Vins, Sherborn, MA; tel.
