This wine takes Barbera to a whole new level. There are 50-year-old vines behind the 2016 Barbera d'Alba Superiore Funtanì, which spends 17 months in oak and a year in the bottle. It is a very different wine than the base Barbera. You can taste the rich softness here of the La Morra grapes. It's an old-vine version that is an elegant expression of this single vineyard. With plenty of freshness along with a 15% alcohol content, this vintage is more elegant and nuanced than the hotter 2015 edition that I tasted last year.

Elegant and intense, this red features great harmony and a silky texture, ideal foils for showcasing the blackberry, black cherry and violet aromas and flavors.
