From 50-year old vines bordering Maranges, the 2013 Santenay 1er Cru Charmes was apparently the last to finish its malolactic (probably because it tends to have slightly higher acidity than the Les Prarons.) It has a crisp bouquet with crushed strawberry, Morello and orange blossom, tightly coiled at first, but then really evolving beautifully in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a great line of acidity and a harmonious, refined finish as good as you will find in Santenay. Excellent.
