Jaffurs’ wines continue to go from strength to strength, and recent vintages have been the finest I have yet tasted from this producer. Graphite, charcoal, black cherry, and blackberry notes soar from the glass of the 2004 Syrah Bien Nacido Vineyard. This impressive, full-bodied, layered, rich effort reveals notions of underbrush, licorice, and truffles. Deep, chewy, and powerful, it requires 1-2 years of cellaring, and should age for 15 or more years.
