The only white wine I tasted is the 2007 Marsanne Purisima Mountain, one of the finest examples of Marsanne I have tasted from the Central Coast. Lovely, crisp, dried apricot, orange blossom, quince, and white currant notes are present in this medium to full-bodied effort. It also possesses very good minerality and acidity. Consume it over the next 2-3 years. This winery, which has extensive holdings on one of Santa Ynez’s finest viticulture sites, Purisima Mountain, continues to build on an already impressive resume of wines. The 2005 Marsanne Purisima Mountain may be the finest Marsanne made outside of certain northern Rhone vineyards. Lemon and other tart citrus characteristics intermixed with hints of almonds, marzipan, and even a touch of fino sherry emerge from this medium-bodied, fruity effort. If you’re not sure what a California Marsanne is supposed to taste like, don’t worry. Nobody else is, either. This one is full of peach and white chocolate flavors, and has a little bit of sugar. Fortunately, good acidity creates balance. The finish is clean and candied. ——S.H.(12/15/2002)—— 85
