This fabulously rich wine (a blend of 85% Zinfandel, 12% Petite Sirah, and, low and behold, 3% Viognier) is one of the finest I have tasted. The saturated opaque purple color is followed by a knock-out nose of blackberry liqueur intermingled with raspberries, pepper, and spice. The wine is explosively rich, with loads of glycerin, layers of concentrated, jammy fruit, full body, and a knock-out, heady finish. This is a hedonistic, gloriously perfumed, and decadently concentrated wine to drink over the next 3-4 years.
Readers may remember the ecstatic reviews I gave previous releases from Behrens and Hitchcock last year. I am thrilled to say that the current releases are also immensely impressive. As demonstrated by last year's releases in addition to these new offerings, Behrens and Hitchcock are producing some of northern California's most exciting wines.
