The Campo al Mare 2020 Bolgheri Rosso is a blend of 60% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Showing encouraging improvement over the years, this ample 100,000-bottle production (and a good value) should be easy to locate, thanks to the Folonari family's wide distribution. With vineyards just over from Sassicaia and next to the popular La Magona restaurant (a local favorite for steaks), this Bolgheri has its cards in place. Sweet black fruits are layered with light spice. The transitions are smooth and simple. It starts off in stainless steel for its fermentation and then finishes off with 12 months in tonneaux.

The 2018 Bolgheri Rosso is a blend of 60% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. This wine offers the Bolgheri basics with a rather thin and short-lived manner. It never ventures beyond those basics. You get dark red fruit with subtle tones of spice and tobacco. The mouthfeel is compact and lean, so perhaps the best food pairing would contrast the thinness of the wine with a fatty cream or butter sauce. Production is 100,000 bottles.

There is full-bodied thickness to the 2016 Bolgheri Rosso, a wine made in a very promising vintage. This effort shows a big jump forward for this estate in terms of balance and intensity. The mouthfeel is a bit thin but still has good freshness and an easy-drinking approach.

Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot form the base of the 2015 Bolgheri Rosso from the Folonari brothers who own several estates across Tuscany. This is an easy and no-fuss red wine that would pair with spicy grilled sausage or roasted porchetta. The wine is thin in texture and low in aromatic intensity. The warm vintage delivers ripe aromas of blackberry and dried cherry. The finish is surprisingly thin, however.

The 2014 Bolgheri Rosso exhibits ripe fruit and jammy cherry notes that come as a surprise, given the cooler vintage. The wine is redolent of pressed blackberry and dark fruit with rose petal and lavender at the back. In the mouth, this blend of 60% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot is thinner and more prickly. It offers an odd contrast between mature fruit on the nose and thorny bramble in the mouth. Some 100,000 bottles are produced.
