The 2004 Montsalvat is 100% Carinena sourced from 80-100-year-old vines and aged for 18 month in new French oak. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it proffers a brooding aromatic array of scorched earth, mineral, leather, lavender, plum, and blackberry. Opulent on the palate with a Reubenesque personality, the wine is dense, powerful, and succulent. Give this lengthy offering 4-5 years of additional cellaring and drink it from 2014 to 2024. In 1996 Francesc Sanchez Bas built his winery in the Priorat village of La Vilella Alta and began producing his own wines from estate vineyards.Importer: Winebow Inc., New York, NY; www.winebow.com
