2020 was atypical in Priorat, and the 2020 Font de la Figuera has 14.5% alcohol, a full 1% less than the 2019 I tasted next to it. It's young, perfumed and elegant, with very fine tannins. It's still marked by the toast from the barrels where it spent some 12 months. It should develop nicely in bottle. 7,700 bottles reflect a lower crop this year. It was bottled in March 2022.

The powerful and classical Priorat red 2019 Font de la Figuera is a blend of Garnacha, Cari?ena and Syrah that fermented in stainless steel and some used oak barrels and matured in used 500-liter French oak barrels for 12 months. It's ripe at 15.5% alcohol, reflecting a warm and dry Priorat vintage, and it has power but also balance and freshness (pH is 3.4). It has notes of wet slate, graphite and earth, along with a toasted touch and fine, slightly dusty tannins. 10,961 bottles were filled in February 2021.

The red blend 2018 Font de la Figuera is composed of 58% Garnacha and 25% Cari?ena and the rest 10% Syrah and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon from their vineyards in Gratallops on the classical llicorella slate soils from Priorat. It fermented in stainless steel and some used oak barrels and matured in French oak barrels for 12 months. It's very Priorat, with power, contained ripeness and nice freshness; it has a note of graphite and earth and very fine tannins and is nicely balanced, combining clout and elegance. This is a cuvée of 9,000 to 10,000 bottles per year. The 2018 was bottled in February. I really like this 2018.

The 2017 Font de la Figuera feels fresher and cleaner than the 2016 tasted next to it, although it keeps that rustic touch. It is balsamic, with contained ripeness and good freshness.

There is a strong streak of tempera paint and licorice on the nose of the 2016 Font de la Figuera and something reminiscent of graphite and wet slate, like the rustic old style of Priorat. The palate has abundant, dusty tannins and a dry finish.
