Aromas of black plums and raspberries, framed by a deft touch of spicy oak, introduce the 2019 Volnay Vieilles Vignes, a medium-bodied, lively and nicely concentrated wine built around bright acids and powdery tannins. From eight parcels amounting to some 1.8 hectares, it's the domaine's most consequential cuvée.

A pretty red, this exudes floral, cherry, raspberry and mineral aromas and flavors. The supple texture is aligned with a firm structure that is as much about fresh acidity as refined tannins. Best from 2023 through 2037. 100 cases imported.??–BS??Region: France / Burgundy / Volnay Select to Add

Opening in the glass with scents of sweet berries, plums, cassis and dark chocolate, the 2018 Volnay Vieilles Vignes is medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, with a generous core of fruit and youthfully chalky structuring tannins.

The 2016 Volnay Villages, just seven barrels instead of 50 believe it or not, has a pretty bouquet of redcurrant and cranberry fruit that is neatly defined, not powerful but focused. The palate is nicely balanced with Pommard-like, almost brittle tannin, decent backbone with a simple, edgy, blackberry and raspberry finish that just pulls up forgivably short. Otherwise this is fine village cru.

The 2015 Volnay Villages has an attractive redcurrant and cranberry-scented bouquet with just a touch of faded rose petal. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm, almost Pommard-like tannins, but there is clearly good density on the finish. It just needs to spread its wings once in bottle.
