The 2020 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Talmettes is firmer and more tightly wound, offering up aromas of peonies, orange and spice mingled with plummy fruit tones, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and youthfully chewy palate built around lively acids and powdery tannins.

The 2019 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Talmettes wafts from the glass with scents of rose petals, peonies, exotic spices and potpourri. Medium to full-bodied, layered and velvety, it's concentrated and gourmand, with a succulent core of fruit, ultra-refined tannins and a long, penetrating finish.

The 2017 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Talmettes displays an attractive bouquet of spices, wild plums, dark chocolate and sweet soil tones, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample palate that's quite broad shouldered and layered at the core, with succulent acids and a mouthwateringly bitter finish. It's a success.

Chisa Bize very candidly admitted that her team's experiment in extending the maceration of the 2015 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Talmettes had not been a success, and I agree. The wine offers up a rather baked bouquet of roasted black fruit and jammy summer fruit compote, followed by a plump, open-knit palate. This is not the domaine's "cheval de bataille" in 2015, and it should be earmarked for near-term consumption.

The 2014 Savigny les Beaune 1er Cru les Talmettes has an open and generous nose, not rich, but transparent with fine mineralité. The red berry fruit seems to turn a little darker in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin, a little dryness here, nicely balanced with a crisp, quite saline finish. This is a well crafted Savigny to enjoy over the next 6-8 years, possibly longer.
