The 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape Secrets de Pignan—a tank-aged 100% Grenache from the sandy soils of Pignan (Nord)—offers more intensity than the regular cuvée, and more red-fruit flavors as well. Raspberries, cherries and hints of resinous herbs mark the nose, while the full-bodied palate is rich, velvety and long on the finish, with just a hint of warmth coming through, offset by attractive dried-spice notes. Compared to previous recent vintages, it's a bit less complex and charming.

The 100% Grenache 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape Secrets de Pignan boasts seductive notions of rose petals, herbal tea and raspberry confiture. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is supported by a web of silken tannins and bright acids that bring defining crispness, dustiness and admirable length to the finish, pulling all of the mouthwatering fruit and complex flower-garden notes together. A bit more structured than the Les Hespérides, I expect it will have a slightly longer drinking window while providing similar pleasure along the way.

All Grenache, all stainless steel, all pleasure, the 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape Secrets de Pignan comes from the Pignan (Nord) lieu-dit. It couldn't be more different from the domaine's regular cuvée, boasting bright cherries and stone fruit up front, then a wonderfully full, lush mouthfeel and a long, silky finish. It should drink well for at least a decade.

All Grenache from the sandy soils of Pignan (nord) and matured in stainless steel, the 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape Secrets de Pignan boasts enormous levels of purple raspberries, plums and apricots. Full-bodied, plush and creamy textured, it delivers waves of supple, rich, concentrated fruit, plus enough spicy-herbal complexity to keep things interesting. An unadulterated expression of ripe Grenache, it's even more compelling than the stellar 2015 version. 500 cases produced.

The 2015 Chateauneuf du Pape Secrets de Pignan is all Grenache, all from Pignan (Nord), all made and matured in stainless steel, so it delivers tons of fruit in every sip. Yet the swirls of blueberries, cherries and stone fruit seem nearly weightless in the mouth, framed by the finest, silkiest tannins and elegantly fading away in a warm dusting of spice.
