A bit lighter-hued for the appellation (but still a reasonably dark rosé), Prieure de Montezargues's 2022 Tavel is about half Grenache, with the rest a mix of Cinsault, Clairette, Mourvèdre and Syrah. It's full-bodied, plump and generous in the mouth, showing ample gras but underscored by a sense of stony austerity that gives the wine backbone and causes the flavors to linger elegantly on the finish.

The 2021 Tavel—a blend of 50% Grenache, 15% each Cinsault and Mourvèdre and 10% each Clairette and Syrah— is slightly lifted and herbal, but with a real punch of ripe fruit in the form of strawberries, peaches and limes. It's medium to full-bodied, with a long, silky finish.

Peach and raspberry aromatics soar on the nose of the Prieuré's 2017 Tavel. It's medium-bodied on the palate, with hints of wet stone providing a firm backbone. Herbal and fresh on the lengthy finish, it seems capable of holding well into 2019.

Tavel is the one rose which needs an extra year in bottle. This one, with its caramel toffee aroma and dense structure, along with the red berry flavors is now well integrated, all ripe fruits and smoothness.——R.V.(7/1/2007)—— 89
