Austere, lean, and mineral-dominated is the 2005 Syrah Purisima Mountain Vineyard. This wine has high acidity and comes across as restrained and tannic, without nearly the exuberance or richness of fruit found in its two predecessors. It should drink well for 5-6 years but is a much more structured, more tightly knit style of Syrah. Tel. (805) 331-2292

The 2004 Syrah Purisima Mountain Vineyard (100% Syrah) is a deep, rich, heady, firm, earthy effort displaying animal, herb, and meat characteristics. While outstanding, it is monolithic and earth-driven. This wine offers a lovely introduction to Samsara.Tel. (805) 331-2292

A brilliant effort, the dense, more tannic, masculine 2003 Syrah Purisima Mountain exhibits terrific fruit as well as additional power and concentration, but neither the charm nor precociousness of its sibling. From the limestone soils (in contrast to the sandy soils of the Larner Vineyard) of the Purisima Mountain vineyard, Samsara’s 2002 Syrah exhibits tremendous notes of creme de cassis and smoky creosote as well as more tannin, density, and structure, but not the complexity of the Larner Vineyard cuvee.
