This winery has made significant progress with respect to its fine wine program. The bizarre, vegetal wines of the past are history. Santa Barbara is now producing a mixed line-up of generally fine Chardonnays, good Pinot Noirs, and a curious Beaujolais-like Zinfandel. The 1992 Beaujour Zinfandel is a deeply colored, richly fruity, plump, satisfying wine for uncritical quaffing at your favorite bistro or trattoria. It is a shame California does not produce more wines such as this; it is easy to understand, delicious to drink, and fairly priced. Drink it chilled over the next year.
