I am not a huge fan of French oak-aged Soave but I was quite taken with the 2006 Soave Classico Le Rive (100% Garganega) which is made in a late harvest style. The wine reveals a stunning array of sweet tropical fruit intermingled with toasted oak, minerals, pine, licorice and flowers. The typical Garganega varietal notes come to life on the mid-palate where the wine reveals the full breadth of its personality. Simply put, this is compelling juice. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2011. A deep, floral nose, with ripe citrus fruits, fresh flowers and hints of lavender and light spicy honey, leads to a full-bodied palate, with a luscious mouthfeel. Layers of fruit and almond character build up and lead to a long, luxuriant finish. Late-harvest in weight.
