The 1995 Zinfandel Old Vine is more ambitious than the regular bottling. Toasty new oak makes its presence known in the wine's aromatics, which also offer generous quantities of pure, ripe, black-cherry fruit. This is a surprisingly elegant, pure, medium-bodied, somewhat tightly-knit yet well-endowed Zinfandel that should drink well over the next 5-6 years. It is almost claret-like in its stylishness and restraint, yet it possesses good power, ripeness, and length. Seghesio is to be applauded for the high quality efforts emerging from their cellars.
