This dark ruby/purple-colored wine (14.2% alcohol) exhibits an intense framboise, kirsch liqueur, and jammy-scented nose. As the wine sits in the glass a toasty vanillin/flowery character emerges. There is excellent density, some tannin, tart acidity, gobs of black cherry and raspberry fruit, and a pure, layered, intense, well-balanced personality. Medium-bodied and cleanly made, this super, classic Zinfandel can be drunk now and over the next 5-6 years.
As I have previously reported, Seghesio, which possesses well-located vineyards in both Alexander Valley and Sonoma, is producing better and better wines.
