This is the inaugural vintage of Biserno, or in other words, the beginning of a new chapter written almost entirely by the charismatic Lodovico Antinori. The 2007 Biserno is a blend of Cabernet Franc with smaller parts Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Following this vintage, the percentage of Cabernet Franc becomes even more important. In fact, you begin to recognize that Cabernet Franc purity starting with the 2012 vintage. Truth be told, the first official vintage of Biserno was 2006, but that wine was never released in a commercial capacity. This is a soft and beautifully textured wine. The problem, however, is that both samples showed mild Brettanomyces. I would have put a question mark next to my score, but I'm afraid this is the state of the wine, not any one bottle. The vineyards were only three to four years old when this wine was made. The 2007 and 2009 vintages were not filtered.
