The 2008 Clos Vougeot is a beautifully balanced, harmonious wine. Sweet spices, licorice, rose petals and a hint of French oak add complexity to the focused, bright red fruit. The finish is long and very nicely articulated. This shows superb harmony and an understated, totally classy personality that is compelling. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2028.
I was quite taken with the handful of 2008 reds I tasted from Remoissenet. The estate likes to pick late and use a fair amount of new oak, an approach that worked beautifully in this vintage, which I prefer to 2009 based on what I have tasted thus far. The 2008s capture the house’s search for textural richness and depth while remaining expressive to their respective sites.
