The estate’s Morellino di Scansano Poggio Valente, a single-vineyard selection, is made from a blend of 95% Sangiovese and 5% Alicante and aged in barrique. The 2003 Morellino di Scansano Poggio Valente is big, powerful and somewhat monolithic, showing good dark cherry fruit although its hard tannins give it a rough around the edges quality. Still, it is a more than respectable showing from this difficult vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2012.
