Former television newsman Doug Tunnell abandoned the klieg lights and fame of network news to live in a small brick house (hence the name) and produce some of Oregon's finest wines. Employing organic viticulture and inquisitive winemaking (Tunnell loves to experiment), he has in a few short years rocketed into the top echelon of the area's producers.
Shockingly, the aromas of the medium ruby-colored Cuvee du Tonnelier Pinot Noir (the name means the Cooper's Cuvee) brought back memories of eating bananas Foster back when it was a popular desert in the seventies. Cream, chocolate, caramel, banana, sweetness and a spicy alcoholic warmth - it was all there in my glass! The wonderfully complex nose is followed by an intense blackberry, dark cherry and earth-tinged, thick, medium-to-full-bodied character with excellent staying power. The question mark is due to the dominating wood flavors and slightly hot alcoholic finish. Projected maturity: 1999-2002. Tel. (503) 538-5136.
