The 2005 Gigondas has shut down since bottling. The tannins of the vintage, the firmer, more crisp acids are poking their heads through this dark ruby/plum-colored wine, which has a restrained but promising nose of red fruits intermixed with some loamy soil notes, pepper, and incense. The wine is medium-bodied, elegant, but still playing it close to the vest, showing moderately high tannins. Give it 2-3 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 12-15 years.Importer: Glazer’s, Chicago; IL; tel. (800) 685-6868, and World Shippers and Importers, Philadelphia, PA; tel. (215) 732-2018
