Domaine de la Charbonniere's 1995s have a more saturated color than the 1996s, cut a deeper, fuller impression on the palate, and possess more character and aromatics. The 1995 Chateauneuf du Pape Mourre des Perdrix is textbook Chateauneuf, displaying pure kirsch liqueur, cherries, and herbes de Provence. The wine is ripe and sweet, with an expansive mid-palate, medium to full body, excellent integration of acidity and tannin, and a long, jammy finish. It is a hedonistic, well-structured wine that should be at its best between 1999-2010. Proprietor Michel Maret has been turning out textbook Chateauneuf du Pape for some time, and he seems to go from strength to strength. Importer: Geerlings and Wade, Canton, MA; tel.
