The 2007 Grans Muralles has no such issues. It offers up an already complex bouquet of sandalwood, exotic spices, herbs, violets, black cherry, and blackberry. Dense, layered, and succulently fruity, it deftly conceals enough underlying structure to evolve for another 3-4 years and will offer a drinking window extending from 2014 to 2027.
It is not going out too far on a limb to say that Grans Muralles is the greatest wine of the Conca de Barbara DO. Grans Muralles is a single vineyard originally planted in the Middle Ages to the ancient Catalan grape varieties, Monastrell, Garnacha Tinta, Garro, Samso, and Mazuelo. The wine is aged for 18 months in new French oak.
