The impressive lineup of 2006 Pinot Noirs (discussed in the order of presentation at the winery) begins with the 2006 Pinot Noir Cumberland Reserve, a blend of 15 different vineyards. Medium ruby-colored, it offers an expressive bouquet of strawberry, raspberry, and cassis. Elegantly-styled, it has a silky mouth-feel, savory flavors, and good length. It lacks only complexity but that may emerge with time in the bottle. Drink it over the next eight years. The Bergstrom Winery, under the direction of Josh Bergstrom, has quickly risen to the upper echelon of United States producers of Pinot Noir. Not to be forgotten is the fact that the winery also turns out superb Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay. In fact, the 2006 -Sigrid- Reserve Chardonnay (94 points) ranks with the best I have ever tasted from Oregon and is reminiscent of a Domaine Leflaive Premier Cru.www.bergstromwinery.com
