The 1999 Barolo Ravera, a medium garnet, is fragrant in its black cherry, chocolate, and anise aromas, medium-weight on the palate but with more than adequate length, some force on the finish, and agreeable, light-textured tannins which add to the length and continuity. Cogno is one of the few producers of interesting Barolo in the village of Novello, somewhat at the periphery of the appellation and rather high as well. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2015.
