The generic 1997 Barolo reveals pink at the rim of its ruby/garnet color. A perfume of roasted peanuts, dried Provencal herbs, sweet currants and cherries is more reminiscent of a classy St.-Emilion than Nebbiolo. However, in the mouth, the wine's opulence, fleshiness, and soft, forward character reflect this vintage's style in Piedmont. Enjoy it over the next 6-7 years.
