The medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2015 Laroze hits the ground running with vibrant, expressive red currants, black raspberries and warm plums scents with touches of violets, chocolate-covered cherries and lavender plus a waft of fallen leaves. Medium-bodied, finely crafted and elegantly styled with plush, come-hither tannins and plenty of youthful, exuberant red and black fruit layers, it finishes with bags of perfume and polish. Very classy!

The 2016 Laroze felt a little overripe on the nose compared to its peers and lacked the same delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet entry but it felt a little monotone towards the finish. Pushed a little too much?

Black cherry and raspberry fruits make for an attractive attack, but the dark chocolate is laid on so thick through the mid-palate that you can cut right through it. The tannins are not bitter because the vintage really does try to hold you back from excess, but this has high drama. Well made.

The 2016 Laroze is plump, juicy and easy to drink. Super-ripe red fruit, espresso, mocha, new leather and sweet spice are all laced together in this nuanced SaintEmilion. Elevage has given the 2016 a level of finesse that was not present en primeur. Although not especially complex, the 2016 is absolutely delicious. Tasted two times.
