The 1997 Duas Quintas Reserva is revisited this issue for a checkup. This is a terrific follow up to the wonderful 1994 in this vertical. Silky and gripping, it shows remarkable concentration for its age, and very fine focus and persistence on the finish. Beautifully constructed, it is surprisingly fresh at times, although it ends with a complex medley of flavors, including a little game and beef. I did not, this time, have the chance to taste the 1994 and 1997 together, but right at the moment, I'd give the 1994 a slight edge for being more expressive and open. It's close, though. This may wind up in the same place at a different moment, or with a different bottle. Let's just say they are both beautiful, with lots of life left.
