Tasted at the La Romanée vertical at Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair. The 1964 La Romanée Grand Cru, which was under the Comte Liger-Belair label and came from the Chateau de Vosne, had been re-corked in 1999. This absolutely divine Pinot Noir sports a mature appearance but very clear. The nose is heavenly: beguiling and pure, subtle red fruit, marmalade and mandarin, hints of brown spice - a truly fabulous nose. The palate is medium-bodied, beautifully refined, harmonious and smooth, just a touch of spice surfacing toward the finish. This is a bewitching La Romanée that at half-a-century old is at the peak of its powers. Tasted June 2015.
