Tasted at the La Romanée vertical at Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair. The 1973 La Romanée Grand Cru, under the Comte Liger-Belair label and re-corked in 1999, has the most fruité compared to the 1972 and 1974 with clean crushed strawberry and menthol scents, fragrant for the vintage. The palate is a pleasant surprise. The entry offers sage and ferrous scents, a slight "furriness" on the tongue and perhaps now showing some dryness toward the finish. I can imagine that this was a fine La Romanée in the 1980s. Now past its best, it still deserves a light round of applause for hanging in there. Tasted June 2015.
