Tasted at the La Romanée vertical at Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair. The 1977 La Romanée Grand Cru, under the Comte Liger-Belair label and re-corked in 1999, has a mature, tawny color. The nose is heavily chaptalized with strong brown sugar and soy scents that are not unattractive but cannot translate the essence of the vineyard. The palate is piquant on the entry, quite dry in the middle, what you might call a "doughnut" wine, which is what you would expect from this execrable growing season. This is for curiosity purposes only. Tasted June 2015.
