The 1999 Barolo Gancia is important, dark in tone, intense, penetrating, smoky, and licorice-laden in aroma, dense and voluminous on the palate, though the extract possesses the silky sensuality which characterizes La Morra. The leather, tar, wild fennel and tobacco flavors offer admirable complexity as well. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2018. Wonderful aromas of crushed raspberries, cherries and spices. Medium- to full-bodied, with racy tannins and a long, caressing finish. Very closed. Slightly austere.
