The 2007 Barolo Vigna Gancia is rather reticent at first, but then fills out nicely. Dried herbs, berries, mint and crushed rocks are woven together in a perfumed, mid-weight fabric. The Gancia shows terrific richness and freshness, not to mention considerable harmony. Flowers, mint and anise add the final layers of complexity to the beautifully articulated finish. This is a gorgeous Barolo from Molino. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022.
I was quite taken with the wines I tasted from Molino this year. It’s too soon to tell if these superb Baroli are more the result of the vintage or if they represent a level we can expect from the estate going forward. I hope it is the latter, but whatever the case, these are magnificent wines that readers will want to check out. As always, the Molino Baroli are juicy wines made in a style that is best suited to near and medium term drinking. The percentage of new oak appears to be way down from the recent past.
